YISS: Unpacking of the Big Ideas for the Singapore Cluster:
I really appreciated how the YISS team skillfully incorporated quotes from recent National Day Rally speeches to reinforce the key ideas of each topic. This approach effectively created a 'need-to-know', helping students understand their place in the world.
Additionally, it fosters a sense of agency. By learning about our vulnerabilities and uncertainties, students are then encouraged to hone their e21CC (critical, adaptive, and inventive thinking) develop strategies that propel the nation forward, rather than seeing ourselves as victims of our geographical circumstances."
Ending off with a very apt quote from Chan Heng Chee [re: turning crisis into opportunities]:
[W]e never let a crisis go to waste. There is a crisis, an economic downturn, we invest, we build, we do that first while the prices are low, so you are ready when businesses come and the recovery takes place.
