#64: 2024 Term 2 Reflections, Takeaways and Growth - Part 2 🌱

Writer's picture: Wen Xin NgWen Xin Ng

The past semester has been a busy and fulfilling one! I had many new experiences, documenting some of them here:

CCA Media & Publicity Workshop

The aim of the workshop was to enhance the visibility and engagement of the school's various CCAs, and the participants included nominated representatives from each CCA. I thought it would be perfect to conduct this workshop using SLS since:

  1. Convenience - SLS allows for the effortless sharing of workshop resources by simply creating a class group. This streamlines the process of distributing materials to the student representatives, ensuring everyone has access to the necessary information without hassle.

  2. Centralised Platform that Promotes Active Engagement - The use of various question types such as polls, MCQs and ITTs and the ease of embedding external resources enhances student engagement compared to traditional PowerPoint slides. All these functions are seamlessly integrated into one platform, eliminating the need to juggle multiple tools or platforms.

  3. Monitoring Progress and Capturing Evidence of Learning - I can easily monitor student progress and capture learning data. This not only ensures accountability but also allows me to archive learning data for future reference and analysis, facilitating continuous improvement.

  4. Facilitating Discussion - I can easily access and utilise student responses to drive discussions during the workshop. This supports a dynamic and responsive learning environment, where student input is actively incorporated into the learning process.

  5. Accessibility - Students can locate and refer to workshop resources easily whenever they need them. This ensures that learning is not confined to the training session.

Founder's Day Video

The objective of the video was to showcase the school’s stakeholders and the vibrancy of the school culture. This was a fun (albeit stressful) one, from scoping the video, to conducting the interviews, sequencing the scenes and aligning the media with the voiceovers. Core memories include:

  • Trawling through the countless media folders of past year events 🤓

  • Interviewing the principal, only to realise afterwards that the audio was not captured 😶‍🌫️

  • Including just-in-time footage of the Sec 2 overseas trip that took place 1 week before Founder's Day 🏃🏻

Despite these hurdles/mishaps, this project definitely honed my creativity and technical skills, giving me the confidence to take on similar projects in the future. 🥳

W6 Humanities Masterclass

The Social Studies Unit came together to design and enact a lesson for the students in our cluster. It was a fruitful session, and colleagues from our cluster schools managed to glean insights into the elements of effective lesson design underpinned by e-Pedagogy.

Hosting students from Seongnam Foreign Language High School (Korea)

One of the last projects I was involved in was designing a Social Studies lesson for a group of exchange students from Seongnam Foreign Language High School (Korea).

We started with a Kahoot quiz featuring trivia on both Singapore and Korea as a segue into the concept of diversity by showcasing different aspects of diversity (i.e. culture, religion, food). After a brief discussion on some issues that may arise as a result of increasing diversity, students then worked in groups to research the Korean and Singaporean governments' approaches to managing diversity. This culminated in a sharing of governmental policies by a few groups.
